About open access

Most of my publications on this site have links to copies for free download and personal use. Open access is shown by an unlocked padlock icon above items listed under the publications menu. This designates a publication has some form of open access (platinum, gold, bronze, blue, or green). The unlocked orange padlock is used by the Otago archive for different forms of open access. Publications that do not currently have open access links are marked on my site with a red and closed padlock. There is more information on different categories of open access below.

Open access categories

Gold OA and Platinum OA for publications originally published in OA form

Bronze OA for publications made freely accessible through publisher web-sites

Green OA for self-deposits in an authorized archive or personal web-site

Blue OA for Green OA self-deposits in their final published form (with publisher permission).

Open access reuse and reproduction

Gold OA and Platinum OA publications usually have a licence that permits non-commercial re-use and/or reproduction under certain conditions without further permission.

Bronze OA still have their original copyright. These items are for personal use and must not be re-used or reproduced without permission from the appropriate copyright holder.

Green OA self-deposits still have their original copyright unless deposited under a Creative Commons license.

Blue OA self-deposits still have their original copyright. These items are for personal use and must not be re-used or reproduced without permission from the appropriate copyright holder.

Open access links

The links and urls for open access items can be shared freely, as long as author attribution and copyright information is included in any use that is made of the publications.
